Winter sniffles allergies or the common cold

The cold days of winter bring most of us indoors for the year – and then the sniffles start up. Symptoms like sneezing, congestion, and sore throat are common during the winter months. These unpleasant symptoms can be evidence of a winter cold, but they can also mean indoor allergies. What are the causes of these winter ailments, and how can they be identified (and treated)?

Winter weather can indirectly cause both colds and indoor allergies. Colds increase in winter because people spend more time inside, confined to small spaces where viruses and germs can be easily passed around. Also, the viruses which cause colds thrive in low-humidity environments, which are typically found in the cold dry months of winter. Low humidity, combined with air blowing from indoor heating systems, causes drying of the nasal passages, which can increase susceptibility to infection.

With indoor allergies, it's a similar story. Indoor allergies are caused by dust, which contains a wide variety of allergy-causing particles like animal dander, mold spores, pollen, dust mites and dust mite waste. Spending more time indoors means increased exposure to these allergens. Plus, indoor heating systems circulate air through the house, knocking loose many allergy causing particles on carpets, furniture, and dusty shelves. Then, these allergens are circulated through your home, right along with the warm cozy air.

Colds and allergies also show themselves in very similar ways, making it difficult to tell them apart. Symptoms of colds include congestion, stuffy nose, swelling of sinuses, sneezing, scratchy sore throat, headaches, aches and pains, fever, and a cough. Allergy symptoms include stuffed or runny nose, sneezing, wheezing, sore throat, watery and itchy eyes, and sometimes headaches. The main difference between cold and allergy symptoms is that colds usually come with body aches and pains and possibly a low-grade fever, while allergies do not. In addition, colds usually last 7-10 days, while allergies will persist as long as the exposure to the offending allergen continues. If you have cold-like symptoms which persist for more than two weeks, it's a good guess that you're dealing with an allergy, not a cold.

Complicating matters, frequent colds may in fact result from allergies. Your body responds to tiny allergens by producing mucus, in an attempt to expel them. However, nasal mucus is also a breeding ground for viruses and bacteria, which can cause colds and sinus infections. Treating allergies will help prevent these, which is why it's a good idea to identify allergies early and treat them accordingly.

It's important to distinguish between colds and allergies, in order to give appropriate treatment. Cold viruses thrive in low humidity, and nasal dryness can lead to increased susceptibility to colds, so running a humidifier in cold dry winter months may be helpful. However, dust mites thrive on high humidity, so if you're suffering from indoor allergies, the low humidity is your ally. And while rest and plenty of fluids may cure a cold, allergies will persist as long as exposure continues.

To treat and prevent indoor allergies:

Visit an allergy doctor who can help you identify the offending indoor allergens

Maintain low indoor humidity to kill dust mites and mold

Vacuum using a HEPA filtered vacuum and run a HEPA air purifier to remove airborne allergens

Encase mattress, pillows, and bedding in allergen-barrier encasings to protect from dust mite allergies

Dust and clean frequently

To treat and prevent winter colds:

Wash your hands frequently and disinfect surfaces

Get plenty of exercise and rest

Eat nutritiously, with lots of fruits and vegetables

Avoid alcohol, tobacco, and excess stress

Relieve cold symptoms with nasal decongestants and cough suppressants

When treating a cold, remember that medicines may relieve symptoms, but they will not cure the cold. Only giving your body the proper care it needs – rest, proper nutrition, and plenty of fluids – will cure the cold. And with allergies, the best way to treat allergy symptoms is to remove the offending allergens from the environment.

Rising gas prices and internet business

Is An Online Business for You?

Rising gas prices have everyone looking at the way they spend a dollar. Do you shop at a mall, a store or do you order online? Is takeout an alternative to eating out, or is the higher gas price being passed along in the takeout fee?

Will your company allow you to work from home instead of commuting? If your employer will not allow working from home and you have a long, gas-expensive commute, what are your choices: Move closer to your job, change jobs, start an internet business? Is an online business for you?

Contrary to the ads and myths around the internet, there is no 'magic bullet' for instant wealth. Unless you're incredibly lucky, in fact, there is no such thing as instant wealth. Like any other successful venture, an online business requires a considerable investment in planning, hard work, persistence and very careful spending. While a huge budget is not a guarantee of success, the more limited your budget, the more important planning, hard work and persistence become.

One of the first steps is to decide which of your interests are most likely to appeal to buyers. This is an important step because you need to enjoy what you're doing and buyers have to want what you are offering. This is a large part of the planning phase and is usually called market research. Market research simply means look at what people are buying and where. Visit sites that offer products or services similar to what you would like to offer. How do they present themselves and their products. If there seem to be too many sites doing what you would like to do, how can you present yourself differently?

As you do market research, remember that the best product on the best-looking website will just sit there unless you have traffic -- people visiting your website. Not everyone who visits your website will buy, but if no one visits there will be no sales at all. Consider the ways you can generate traffic. It's best to have more than one traffic generating stream. Lists are well and good, but it takes time to grow them and not all list building schemes are beneficial to you.

Start your own blog. There are many free blog sites you can use that 'ping' to well-known search engines each time you add a new post. A blog gives you a chance to establish a relationship with your readers so that when you do launch a product, they'll be more likely to visit your product website.

Writing articles is another way to build traffic. Your articles can be about your favorite hobby, your observations on the world condition, the best way to organize family holidays; whatever. The important thing is getting your name out there and guiding people to your blog or website. Once again, you are establishing a relationship with readers and that is the most important key to building traffic. Be sure to check with article directories and article submission sites to follow their guidelines.

Careful spending is critical to any long term business effort. The temptation will be to buy anything and everything that offers a shortcut to opening your business's doors. Too few of those systems actually benefit anyone but the person who sells them. The first question you need to ask yourself is 'has the person made their 'fabulous income' through using the system or by selling the system?'

Other ways to spend money will be on tools to get your website up and running. These tools may be useful and effective, but take the time to look for 'free' tools that do the same thing. There are plenty of them out there and these tools will do the job for you until you have the money to upgrade -- if you still think an upgrade is necessary.

Is an online business for you? If you're expecting instant wealth with little work, then quite probably no. If you're willing to commit yourself to a consistent daily effort working for yourself harder than you've ever worked for an employer, the answer could well be yes. In the meantime, keep your day job until you've gotten your online business on a solid footing.

Work life balance the gift of too much to do

On any given day I generally have more than enough to do. Sometimes I have so much to do that I hardly know where to begin. Yet the fact is that most weeks I work less than 40 hours.

People are always asking me how I get everything done. How do I find the time to read so much? How can I travel and attend trainings while keeping up with my practice? How do I manage to write my blog and Authentic Promotion newsletter? How do I maintain work life balance that has become the Holy Grail of our times? What's my secret?

There are many answers, but one in particular arose in the midst of one of my morning meditation. As usual, my mind was prancing around like a young puppy, willing to heel for only a moment or two before racing off to explore some enticing scent in the bushes. Also as usual, one of these enticing scents was my "To Do" list.

As I gave a gentle tug on my mental leash, I experienced a sudden shift in perception. It was as if I had slipped through the looking glass to discover that I was living in a world of abundant possibility as opposed to one of temporal scarcity.

I no longer had the problem of not enough time and balancing my life with my work; I had the gift of more than enough to do.

Why is this a gift? Consider this. When you are invited to a smorgasbord laden with more delicacies than you can possibly sample, you choose from among the offerings the ones that you want most. What you choose will depend on your needs, desires, and values. Do you want to try something new? Do you want to experiment with a new combination of familiar pleasures? Do you have allergies to consider? Is there a favorite food you want to make sure to taste again?

Sure, you could approach the buffet with resentment, frustrated that the thoughtless hosts had plotted to overwhelm you. But why on earth would you adopt that point of view? What would you gain?

As I sat with this notion of having more than enough to do, I knew intuitively that I did not have to do everything on my list any more than I would have to eat everything at a buffet. I also knew that accepting that I could not do it all was part of the pleasure of acknowledging the wealth of opportunity before me.

I've spent several days now musing about what actions and choices arise from "behind the looking glass." Here are some of the practical ways this shift shows up:

-- When I notice that I have more than enough, it is natural to look for how I can share it, giving a whole new twist to the notion of delegating work. Who would enjoy doing this work? Who would enjoy learning how to do this? With whom would I like to try this?

-- When I notice that I have more than enough, it is natural to wonder what I want most and why. This invigorates the process of setting priorities. What would be the most fun? What would be the most nourishing? What can keep for another day of my life? What can I enjoy from a distance?

-- When I notice that I have more than enough, it is natural to act from gratitude and to express gratitude through good stewardship. For the sake of what shall I make this choice? What makes the most sense or is most necessary in light of current life conditions? What selections support healthy ambition? How can I preserve or conserve opportunities for another person or another day? If I cannot use an opportunity, how can I be complete with it?

-- When I notice that I have more than enough, I can trust the ebb and flow of natural abundance. I regard unused possibilities of balancing my life with my work as compost for the future. I appreciate that times of apparent emptiness are the seedbed for times of opportunity. I know that when seedlings grow too thickly, it is time to thin the garden, not to complain about the pressure of competing priorities.

I encourage you to notice your own relationship to time and the things you have to do. Check your work life balance and emotional weather report as it relates to planning either for the day or for a specific project over a period of days. Then notice the physical sensations that correspond to this weather report. How does this change when you play with the notion that rather than too little time you more than enough to do, an abundance of opportunity?

Once you have felt your way into this different frame of mind, see what new possibilities show up. What actions are possible (and how are they qualitatively different) from this place?

Laser therapy an effective quit smoking option

Have you finally reached the point where the pleasure you get from a cigarette is no longer enough? If you’re feeling ready to quit, first give yourself a hearty congratulations and then start planning the quickest and most direct path to a smoke-free lifestyle. There are many options available when it comes to quitting smoking, and one very effective and successful option is laser therapy for quitting smoking.

Laser treatment draws its scientific foundation from the ancient medicinal art of acupuncture, a technique that uses specific points on the body for therapeutic effect. With laser treatment for quitting smoking, a low level “cool” laser is applied to acupuncture points on the smoker’s ear and body to stimulate endorphins, leaving the patient feeling calm and relaxed. The procedure is absolutely painless and stress free; many people fall asleep during the treatment. Some people feel a slight tingling sensation or warmth around the point stimulated. Others have noticed their lungs taking deeper breaths during the treatment, or the day after trying to have a cigarette and getting nauseous.

The body reacts to nicotine by producing higher levels of endorphins and during withdrawal, the body goes into a state of dysphoria (the opposite of euphoria), which can last for up to four weeks. With laser therapy, the body’s endorphin release during and after treatment maintains the endorphin levels a smoker is accustomed to and minimizes the withdrawal and cravings normally associated with quitting. This effect may last for several days, a critical period during the quit process, making a smoker’s experience considerably smoother and easier. A very high percentage of people quit after just one treatment.

Beyond dealing with the physical aspect of the addiction, smokers must also address the psychological addiction to smoking. This means changing behaviours and attitudes towards smoking - completing the transformation to a non-smoker means, most importantly, being able to view yourself as a non-smoker. This is where extra support and encouragement can be critical for long-term success. There are many free online resources available to smokers wishing to quit. Most laser therapy treatments also include tips, education, and techniques for remaining smoke-free and overcoming the psychological aspect of smoking.

Successfully quitting smoking means examining your options and deciding on the quit plan that works best for you. An effective plan should use methods that address both the physical and psychological aspects of quitting for long term success as a non-smoker.

Good luck!

Mummy makeover

In a woman's life journey, motherhood is perhaps one of the most important transformational experiences – for many, it is the essence of what it means to be female. For all of the challenges and difficulties that raising a child entails, nothing can compare to holding that beautiful baby in your arms and feeling its pure innocence, warmth, and wide-eyed wonderment.

But when Mommy takes some time off to have a baby, she must often return to the workforce, which is competitive and places a premium on youth and attractiveness – especially in image conscious places like Beverly Hills and Los Angeles.

The fact is, childbirth is a major ordeal, and so is nursing – and they both leave their mark on Mommy's body. After baby is born, abdominal muscles are stretched, weight is often difficult to lose, and breasts may droop or sag. Nowadays, women have become empowered thanks to the tools of modern medicine, and the Mommy Makeover has fast become a very popular option for mothers wishing to get back their pre-pregnancy good looks.

Los Angeles Liposuction - reshapes and recontours the body by eliminating fat deposits around the waist and hips that were gained during pregnancy. Our Power-Assisted Liposuction procedure has less pain and down time than conventional lipo!

Los Angeles Tummy Tuck – removes excess abdominal skin and fat; tightens the tummy area. Liposuction alone does not get rid of the appearance of hanging abdominal skin, which is caused by the severe stretching of the stomach muscles in childbirth. Only a tummy tuck actually corrects the problem by tightening the lax abdominal muscles.

Los Angeles Breast Augmentation – corrects breast volume reduction common after pregnancy. Many mommies are surprised by the "shrinkage" that they see in their breasts, and using breast augmentation (breast implants) can restore a woman's full breasts.

Breast Lift – corrects sagging and/or asymmetrical breasts. Unfortunately, with the stresses of childbirth and nursing, the breasts can become a bit saggy. However, the good news is a breast lift can make breasts look "brand new" again.

Breast Reduction – Breasts may become significantly enlarged because of hormonal changes during pregnancy, and if the breasts are too large, they may become uncomfortable – even painful. Breast reduction brings you back to a more normal size, making you feel younger and less "weighed down."

Laser Skin Treatments – Although we don't tend to think about it as much, a woman's skin is also commonly affected by pregnancy and childbirth. Stretch marks are one obvious manifestation. Skin hyperpigmentation, blotchiness, and acne breakouts are also seen (probably due to hormonal changes), as are vascular lesions such as " spider veins". Laser treatments are available for all of these conditions, and TopSurgeons is known for having the world's largest selection of advanced laser machines.

So make the most of motherhood, but look like you did before your baby was born – with a Mommy Makeover by the plastic and cosmetic surgeons at TopSurgeons! Call us at 800-506-8084 to book your consultation, or make and appointement today with Dr. Omidi. Visit us at topsurgeons. com

Using mirrors to open up a home

Many people are shocked when they first begin home shopping. Homes today are built smaller with compact rooms. The trend for building as many homes as possible in any given area is resulting in tiny rooms with little character. A homeowner however can use decorative pieces such as mirrors to help open up their space. If you are interesting in adding depth or openness to your home, consider using these tips.

If you have a rectangular or square room that seems a little too boxy for you, you can use mirrors on the wall to help open it up. You can place a mirror on a wall above your sofa to start. Make sure the mirror is at least a medium sized piece. Using smaller mirrors may only make things worse. You can choose to use only one, or you can choose to use one on the wall directly across from the first mirror as well.

Narrow hallways are a big problem for a lot of homeowners. To make a hallway look wider, consider adding a mirror to the end of the hall. For an even more dramatic effect, try adding a whole wall of mirrors at the end of the hallway. Using mirrors all over the way is a great way to open up the space with ease. This is a rather inexpensive way to totally change the way your hallway looks.

Using mirrors in a small bathroom is the perfect way to brighten up the space. Use a mirror on both walls to get a great look at your total body as well. If you want to see the back of your outfit or your hair, you will be able to do so when you place mirrors strategically. You might not want to mirror an entire wall however in this room of your home because you will find yourself cleaning it much more often than if it were somewhere else in your home. Bathroom mirrors get water spots and dirt on them much more easily.

Opening up a home by strategically placing mirrors throughout the areas is a great way to add design as well as function. You will love the openness a mirror will bring. It will allow you to create spaces that look sophisticated and roomy, even when the rooms are tiny. You can find mirrors at most home dйcor stores. Home improvement stores and discount stores are also great places to look.

Philippine apart-hotel or condotel properties being snap up by lively uk investment funds as rents soar

"Rents which we thought we would get in two years we're getting now," said Beth Collingz, a managing director in Metro Manila of the Condotel Marketing arm of PLC Global Pinoy, the International marketing partner of Pacific Concord Properties’ Lancaster Brand of Condo Hotels in the Philippines.

Collingz expects rental income to rise 15 percent in the coming 12 months after gains of as much as 30 percent since January 2006, when Pacific Concord Properties Inc are set to launch Condo Hotel operations of their flagship Lancaster Suites located in the Ortigas business district in Metro Manila.

UK Private equity units of banks and investment clubs, driven in part by the current strength of the Pound Sterling in international trading, are being attracted by returns in the Philippines as much as double those in the United States and Europe, are purchasing significant blocks of real estate for investment trusts for Asian commercial property.

"There are large amounts of capital now chasing increasingly limited investment-grade real-estate opportunities in Asia," said Collingz. "We are currently in the closing stages of packaging the investment of some $20M in private-equity real estate funds for new Lancaster Brand Apart-Hotel or Condotel developments in Metro Manila and Cebu, on the strength of expected rental returns which will continue to grow at a rapid pace."

With funds raised for commercial property deals in Asia having doubled in each of the past five years, Collingz see the market value of Condotel investments in the Philippines reaching new heights in 2007/8 as more developments come on line.

Rising demand for homes, hotels, short and medium term rental accommodation, offices and shopping malls in the Philippines, home to a population of almost 80 million and with a significant number of the more than 10 million returning overseas Filipino ‘Baby Boomers’, is fueling rents.

Residential rents in Metro Manila rose 26 percent in the three months to March 2007, their highest quarter-on-quarter increase in more than a decade, as more and more IT companies set up shop in the Philippines. Companies like Texas Instruments are investing $1B in expanded operations in the Philippines. High-end rents rose some 13 percent from a year earlier, said Collingz.

Collingz projects that Rents in the region are set to effectively jump up by at least 8.7 percent per annum over the next five years, compared with 3.3 percent in the United States and 3.7 percent in Europe. Yields from 8 percent to as high as 14-16 percent ROI on rental income property contrast with the 4 percent to 5 percent that private equity firms get in the United States and Europe.

"People are in general looking to shift fund flows relatively towards Asia," Collingz said. "It already has had a profound impact in markets where there's a lot of this money chasing the same assets." In Singapore, the region's second - biggest market after Japan, investments by private real estate funds accounted for seven of the 19 office blocks, worth 6.7 billion dollars, sold since September 2005. REITs bought six. A Goldman Sachs fund paid 690 million dollars for two buildings last November that house the headquarters of DBS Group Holdings. In Hong Kong, property funds of Morgan Stanley and Macquarie Bank paid a total of 7.9 billion Hong Kong dollars, or $1.02 billion, for four office blocks from March to May, according a recent article published by CB Richard Ellis.

As the Singapore, Japan and Hong Kong markets become saturated, the Philippines will be the next real estate market to attract substantial overseas investments. Lower prices and retirees’ spending money are also directing foreign attention to residential condominium hotels in the Philippines, which in turn is driving up more construction.

A lot of this interest is being driven by the relatively cheap market prices here compared to Europe especially UK housing prices and the easy payment options available for condominium hotel developments Collingz said. The buyers gain rental incomes that on today’s purchase prices give a projected ROI of some 8 percent to 14-16 percent depending on the mode of payment for the unit she said.

Achieve more by deleting should from your vocabulary

When we talk about our goals, we use the word "should" a lot. Most of us think it's just an innocent word that helps us get out of boring conversations and confrontations about our bad habits. However, the word "should" poisons our speech and ambitions by inferring that what we're doing isn't good enough, and that we would be better off doing something else.

When you say you "should" do something, what are you really saying?

1. It's an obligation that you're not fond of.

We don't talk about how we "should" do things that we don't feel obligated to do. If we are excited about eating cake, we don't say, "I "should" eat cake." We just do it! However, if we feel obligated to eat celery, it becomes a "should." If making cookies for the bake sale is a "should," it's an obligation. If it were a fun activity, it would be easy for you to just do it.

2. You're not going to do it and you have an excuse as to why.

"I "should" ________________," is usually followed by, "but ______________." When you say things like this, you are proclaming to the world that you agree one course of action would be appropriate, and that you're going to do the exact opposite. Imagine how foolish you would sound telling your boss, "I know that the appropriate thing to do is to stay late and finish the proposal so I am prepared for tomorrow's meeting, and instead of doing that I am going to go home and take the chance of not finishing it before the meeting tomorrow morning." If this is what you really mean, why bother disguising with a "should?" Deep down, you know what's really going on.

3. You know exactly what you need to do to make things better and you haven't started yet!

For all of you out there who "should" stop smoking, who "should" lose weight, or who "should" go back to school, you know exactly what you want to do to make your life better for yourself, and you're using "should" as a lame excuse not to take action! Of course, standing on the sidelines is much easier than running after the ball, but you don't win any games that way. If you have a long list of "should's" and a short list of goals, choose which of those "should's" you will follow through with and put your plans on paper.

If instead of feeling that your day is just one thing you "should" do after another thing you "should" do, turn your "should's" into definite "will's" or "will not's." While "should" robs you of power and motivation, "will" gives you power and resolve to get things done. With fewer "should's" in your vocabulary, you'll find yourself speeding along the road to accomplishment.

Storage sheds the un-clutter solution

A storage shed is a light structure (generally made of wood) in a back garden used for storage of tools, vehicles, or useful items and is very often used to pursue hobbies like gardening and light engineering. Storage sheds are available in a variety of designs and materials in the market.

Types of Storage Sheds Based on Material. The materials used for storage sheds are wood, plywood, vinyl, metal, steel and Rubbermaid. The materials have various advantages and disadvantages. Wood is the preferred material as it gives an aesthetic appeal. However wood needs to be treated for ultraviolet protection every year and sometimes treatment is also given for protection against pests and borers. Cedar wood is preferred material. Particle wood and plywood are very popular for storage shed sidings. However they are least resistant to water as they get out of shape after repeated wetting and drying. Hence plywood should be avoided in places where it rains frequently.

Vinyl has the advantage of being maintenance free. However vinyl is lower on the visual attractiveness scale. Metal sidings include aluminum, which is light and when anodized gives a good look and lasts a long time. Steel sidings, though cheap, should be avoided as they rust easily. Metal sidings have the least appealing look. Vinyl coated steel has a long life and gives good strength. Rubbermaid and poly vinyl chloride sidings are maintenance free, requiring no painting, no rust treatment and no rot or pest treatment. One thing that should be looked into while selecting siding material is that the siding material should match with the main building siding material. A different siding material may give a contrasting look to the storage shed.

Do It Yourself Kits Vs Professional Installation. Storage sheds can be professionally installed as well as self assembled. Usually for easy assembly, the parts are numbered in self-assembly type storage shed kits. Also assembly instructions are provided with storage-shed kits. Self-assembly may save money and can be a satisfying though difficult experience.

Sizes & Accessories. The usual sizes of storage sheds are, 12’ X 24’, 12’ X 30’, 12’ X 10’, 10’ X 14’, 10’ X 8’, 8’ X 6’ etc. It is better to opt for a double door. For those who want to keep light engineering machines, a good foundation is necessary. Other accessories that come with storage sheds are windows, shutters, weathervanes etc. Hooks and shelves increase the capacity of the storage shed by utilizing vertical space. The windows should be so designed that they match with the main building.

Building Codes and Laws. In various states there are laws on sheds like zoning ordinance, building codes, deed restrictions, building permits, siding materials etc. It is prudent to go through these before installing a storage shed.

Storage sheds are available in various shapes, colors, patterns and sizes. They can be customized to suit an individual’s taste. Smaller sheds are called tool sheds. Larger sheds called barns are used to house vehicles, boats and other large items. The prices range from $300 to $4000 depending upon size, material and accessories in the storage shed.

Learning spanish begin by listening - part 3

The way in which adult Africans, and I believe many of the adults I've met in the resort areas of Mexico, have developed a high degree of spoken fluency is the same way in which we learned our native tongue as children—Passive Listening. If ever there was a "natural way" to learn a second language, this is it. If ever there was a way that one should use as the primary step to second language acquisition, this is it.

Passive listening would be the direct opposite of how we are taught to approach the learning of math, history, or science. It is not the cramming, drilling, cold memorizing of facts, or mindless repetition of vocabulary words. It is, rather, the silent assimilation and consequent registering of sights, noises, smells, and action pictures within the new language. It is something that goes on even when a conscious effort is not being made to pay attention to things within the language. I know of one language school in the States that uses the Learnables products with children and suggests playing the tapes while the kids play and sleep.

During the period of silence in which children say little in the new language and play a lot, passive listening is happening. There is no classroom in which a teacher is instructing the child in the language. The need to fit into play with the foreign children whose language must sound like gibberish at first is so great that lots of passive listening is happening.

As adults, we have to engage in purposeful activity, one that is designed for massive exposure in the new language (acquisition first, learning second), as well as passive activity. I not only use home study courses that offer me "comprehensible input" in the language, but I watch lots and lots of television in Spanish. This can be done in the States as well as in Mexico where I live. The Simpson's is an ideal program for this. It used to be available on Univision television as well as other Spanish cable networks.

Spanish love spanish poets and their spanish poems

Love and its attendant passions has been the favorite subject of Spanish poetry since the time of the troubadours, medieval poets who earned their keep by singing for the people at the village square or for the nobility during royal gatherings at the palace. Composers in their own right, these court poets sang about courtly love and the bittersweet pain of unattained love for an idealized woman using the jarchas, a form of love song that was actually poetry written in very short stanzas.

It is important in the study of Spanish love poems to differentiate between poems that originated from countries outside of Spain including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, The Philippines, Puerto Rico, The United States, Uruguay and Venezuela which were written in Spanish but whose authors were not from Spain. All these poets and their respective poems have contributed in some way to the development of Spanish Poetry as a genre because they all wrote their work in Spanish albeit in the form of Spanish common to their country of origin. Although some of them wrote patriotic poems about their motherland, most of them utilized images of love to depict the sorrow of a country that has lost its freedom.

Some of these well-known Spanish poets and their popular poems are:

Carlos Alberto Garcia – Amor

Que soy

Quisiera

Yo te conozco

Olvidarte

Nestor Oscar Morris – Quiero decirte algo

Pienso solo en ti

Jorge E. Diaz Leyton – Tu

Manuel M. Mendez – Pertenencia

Focusing attention on Spanish poets who trace their origins to Spain, however; poets who lived, loved and wrote their best work within the Spanish Peninsula or the so-called ‘Poetas de Espaсa’, we come up with a list of illustrious writers whose works contributed to the development of Spanish Literature as it is today.

* Rafael Alberti - La Amante

* Vicente Aleixandre ( Nobel Laureate 1977) – Destruction of Love

* Dбmaso Alonso – Hijos de la Ira

* Gustavo Adolfo Bйcquer – Rimas y leyendas

* Saint John of the Cross - Dark Night of the Soul

* Luis Cernuda - La realidad y el deseo

* Francisco Domene - Arrabalнas

* Leуn Felipe – Drop a Star

* Federico Garcнa Lorca - Sonetos del amor oscuro

* Luis de Gуngora - Soledades

* Jorge Guillйn - Cбntico

* Miguel Hernбndez - Nanas de cebolla

* Santa Teresa de Jesъs - Laughter Came From Every Brick

Is swimming effective for weight loss and tone muscles

Well, most people think swimming is effective to tone muscles and lose fat and that is why the swimming pools everywhere are always packed in the evenings and weekends. Well, I must first declare that I am not anti-swimming. In fact, I swim regularly. However when I researched materials for my articles, I came across some negative aspects of swimming from the scientific community.

Swimming is considered as one of the best exercises to lose weight and also to build and tone muscles. Not surprisingly so because when you swim, all your major muscles are called into action. It also has an aerobic effect, so heart and lungs get a good workout too.

However, a research published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine shows that in the absence of a controlled diet, swimming has little or no effect on weight loss.

Professor Grant Gwinup conducted an experiment with the following results.

* Test subjects following a walking program lost 17 pounds of weight during the three-month study.

* Those following the cycling program lost 19 pounds of weight.

* However, subjects following the swimming program actually gained 5 pounds.

Astonishing isn't it? I was surprised too when I first read the report.

Professor Gwinup then assumes that swimming in cold water stimulates the appetite to increase caloric consumption.

Professor Louise Burke, Head of Nutrition at the Australian Institute of Sport, pointed out that competitive swimmers typically have body fat levels that are higher than those of runners or cyclists who expend a similar amount of energy when they train.

Many people feel hungry after swimming and may simply replace all the calories they've burned with a large meal after their swim.

"Some research suggests that this is due to the cool temperatures in which swimmers train. By contrast, runners and cyclists usually experience an increase in body temperature during training, which may serve to suppress appetite - at least in the short term" said Professor Burke.

Professor Burke further said that competitive swimmers are less active outside their training sessions. They are so tired from the hours spent training that they sleep, sit or otherwise avoid any real physical activity outside their sessions.

Now on building muscles, because most of the work your body does when swimming involves positive muscle actions, like pushing up a bench press, there is no negative action like lowering the weights during a bench press at all. We know that the negative move during weight training is important to build muscles and burn fat.

Doing any exercise is better than not exercising at all. So go ahead and swim so that you can have various forms of exercises to beat the boredom of doing the same things all the time. Just make sure that you don't eat more or become more sedentary after your swim.

Learn how to knit with easy beginner instructions

As a beginner in knitting, you're probably curious about the basics in knitting before you take lessons. Knitting provides a hobby that's fun, requires self-discipline and steadfastness, and allows you to feel a sense of achievement when your knitting project is complete.

Knitting Defined

Knitting is a craft in which two needles along with thread or yarn are used to create fabric pieces or garments by creating loops in the yarn. Knitting can be used to create many types of fabric, from framed knitting artwork to sweaters, afghan quilts, throws, blankets, mittens, or even bedroom slippers.

The very basic type of knitting is called the knit stitch. With the knit stitch, you'll slip the needle through the loop from front to back. Then, loop the yarn around the needle and put the stitch through onto the second needle. Another common type of knitting is the purl stitch, which is handled in an opposite manner than the knit stitch. When learning how to knit through paid or free knitting lessons for beginners, you'll learn these basics first.

A completed fabric that has been knitted is characterized by rows of stitches that resemble loops and flat rows alternated.

Why Learn How to Knit?

Knitting has been around for thousands of years, and probably always will be. So, why knit by hand when you can easily buy finished fabrics in the marketplace? There are many reasons to learn how to knit and to also teach your daughter to knit.

One, knitting gives you a sense of accomplishment. When you complete a beautiful knitted piece that can be framed as a home decor piece, you'll be proud to hang it on your wall. When you complete a lovely, warm sweater made with your own hands, you can proudly wear it and explain that you knitted it yourself.

Two, learning how to knit requires self-discipline and steadfastness. You must work on it consistently to complete a project. Your child can also learn to set goals, stick with something until the end, and accomplish something special through knitting.

Three, knitted items make excellent gifts. When your friend or loved one becomes an expectant mother, you can immediately begin knitting a blanket for the baby. Or, knit slippers for your family members as Christmas gifts. Giving something you knitted with your own hands makes a very special gift from the heart.

Where to Learn

Learning how to knit is easy today with so many online resources. There are online paid or free knitting lessons for beginners as well as advanced knitting instructions. You can opt to learn from an individual locally, but this can cost quite a bit of time and money. Learning how to knit online enables you to learn from your own home during your spare time. It's also very affordable.

Some things you'll learn through online knitting lessons include what tools and supplies are needed, how to cast on, how to know knits from purls, how to create patterns and designs, how to block and sew your work together, how to care for knitted garments, and other valuable knitting skills.

With free knitting lessons for beginners or advanced knitting instructions, you might also benefit and save money with the free knitting patterns provided at some knitting websites. Learning how to knit will give you a skill that can be enjoyed for a lifetime.

Trumpeting an elephant s success

One conservation group has worked to help ensure that elephants are not forgotten-and recently, it has celebrated some enormous successes.

On April 6, 2006, a healthy, 295-pound, female Asian elephant named Mable was born at the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Center for Elephant Conservation® (CEC) in central Florida. The $5 million breeding and retirement facility was founded by Ringling Bros. to help conserve and study Asian elephants. This year marks the 11th anniversary of the CEC.

Built in 1995, the Ringling Bros. CEC is a 200-acre, state-of-the-art facility that looks after new and retired circus elephants. Elephants in the wild are threatened by poachers-many of whom hunt the animals for their ivory tusks-and by the destruction of their natural habitat. It's believed that facilities such as the Ringling Bros. CEC could help elephants thrive once again.

The Ringling Bros. CEC also welcomes conservation researchers and scientists, such as Bets Rasmussen of the University of Oregon, who is studying elephant pheromones, which are emitted by older male elephants and influence both a female elephant's interest in mating and how other surrounding elephants behave.

The Ringling Bros. CEC facility is considered to be among the most accomplished Asian elephant breeding programs outside of Southeast Asia and it is dedicated to the reproduction, research and retirement of the endangered Asian elephant.

To date, 20 Asian elephants have been born at the facility, including Irvin and Aree, both arriving just last year. The pachyderms will enjoy a life of fine dining at the preserve (the elephants there eat about 2.5 tons of hay daily). Just as important, though, the elephants could help people learn more about the species.

Scientists say elephant numbers are dwindling worldwide. In fact, it's estimated that only 35,000 Asian elephants are left on the planet.

What is yoga

Yoga can seem like a complicated concept - or, at the least, a dizzying array of physical manipulations that turn seemingly happy-looking human beings into happy looking human pretzels.

Even more disconcerting, a stereotype does exist in places where the term yoga is synonymous with cult, or some kind of archaic spiritual belief that compels one to quit their job, sell their house, and go live in the middle of nowhere.

In actual fact, Yoga is a very basic "thing". If you’ve had the opportunity to visit a country where it has been established for generations – India, Japan, China, and others – it’s really rather, well, "ordinary".

The practice of yoga came to the west back in 1893 when one of India’s celebrated gurus, Swami Vivekananda, was welcomed at the World Fair in Chicago. He is now known for having sparked the West’s interest in yoga.

Literally, the word yoga comes from the Sanskrit term Yug, which means: “to yoke, bind, join, or direct one’s attention”. At the same time, yoga can also imply concepts such as fusion, union, and discipline.

The sacred scriptures of Hinduism (an ancient belief system from India that has a global presence) also defines yoga as “unitive discipline”; the kind of discipline that, according to experts Georg Feuerstein and Stephan Bodian in their book Living Yoga, leads to inner and outer union, harmony and joy.

In essence, yoga is most commonly understood as conscious living; of tapping into one’s inner potential for happiness (what Sankrit refers to as ananda).

What Yoga Isn’t:

Sometimes it’s helpful to understand things by what they aren’t; especially when dealing with a topic, like Yoga, that is quite easily misunderstood.

Authors and yoga scholars Feuerstein and Bodian help us understand yoga by telling us what it is NOT:

Yoga is NOT calisthenics (marked by the headstand, the lotus posture or some pretzel-like pose). While it is true that yoga involves many postures – especially in hatha yoga – these are only intended to make people get in touch with their inner feelings.

Yoga is NOT a system of meditation – or a religion – the way many people are misled to believe. Meditation is only part of the whole process of bringing ourselves into the realm of the spiritual.

What is the essence of Yoga?

Virtually all yogic science and philosophy states that a human being is but a fragment of an enormous universe, and when this human being learns to “communion” with this vastness, then he/she attains union with something that is bigger than him/her.

This attachment or tapping into something bigger thus enables one to walk the true path of happiness. By flowing along with the force, the individual is able to discover truth.

And with truth comes realization; but to attain realization, our words, thoughts and deeds must be based on truth. People attend courses on yoga and go to studios to learn new techniques in yoga, but yoga teacher Tim Miller said that “True yoga begins when leave the studio; it’s all about being awake and being mindful of your actions".

Online stores why use them

I have had many conversations either by email or in talking with friends and family regarding shopping at online stores rather than going directly to the company itself.

I decided to do some research, as I always do, mainly because like most people I want to get the best products for the best price. Before I started my research my experience, was like most people I imagine, in that I searched for the best deal on the Internet. I would search for products, look for the ad that most closely matched what I wanted, researched a bit and bought the product from that site. Sometimes it was the company itself other times I would click on a link from an affiliate site.

After my research I recommend searching for good online stores before purchasing directly from the company. Why? Great question. I found that if you really do your research that you can find many of the online stores have researched the products for visitors and they will receive special offers, from the companies that they can pass on to their online visitors. By visitor I mean someone like you are I that goes to an online store (affiliate store) clicks on a link to a company like Amazon and buys directly from the company. You are actually buying from the company, but you will get any special discounts that may have been give to the affiliates online store.

There is a common misconception that you will get a better price if you go directly to the website. Not true! I discovered that not only will you not pay one penny more by using an online store, but you will often get special discounts that you might not see otherwise. How can this be? Well, if you go through an online web store you will be taken to the companies website and get the best pricing they offer. The difference is that many affiliate sites will get discount offers that they can offer their visitors who visit their site.

I was so impressed with my research that I decided to offer an online store on my site. I actually received many of these discount offers on a regular basis. What I like is that I am able to offer many special discounts to my frequent visitors. You will find many good online stores on the Internet, not just mine, that offer this.

A web site owner typically will get discount offers from the companies, which he or she can then pass on to visitors. A visitor simply clicks on the respective companies link from the affiliates site. It's painless and invisible to the visitor as he or she simply clicks through to companies like Amazon, Sharper Image, Camping World etc.

Why would these companies do this? Web site owners like myself pay to advertise their sites, which contain links to the companies. The companies are getting free advertising and in my opinion the discounts they offer saves the company money, because they cost of advertising is taken into consideration. They get more customers without paying for any advertising. The visitor gets the best price, which may include further discounts. It' a win-win situation for everyone.

In summary, just search the web like always, if you find an online store that you like and feel comfortable with, book mark the site and use it when shopping online. It's that simple. Please feel free to read both this article or one of my many others by visiting my link in the resource box below. I always enjoy getting emails pertaining to my articles or my site. Your feedback is important to me.

The growth of the Internet allows for the companies, affiliates and most importantly the online customers to be matched up helping all parties.

Top 3 tips to great tan

The popularity of self-tanning products is surging, showing that Americans are wising up about sun safety. They're putting their money where their skin is.

Skin takes a lot of wear and tear, so it naturally regenerates itself. Every 35-45 days the outer layer of the skin, the epidermis, is completely replaced. Since skin pigment is found in this upper layer, any natural or added pigment will be sloughed away in about one month's time. This is why natural tans fade and why many self-tanning products recommend you re-apply the product every few days to maintain your tan.

Self-tanning products, also called ''sunless'' tanning lotions, contain dihydroxyacetone (DHA), a colorless sugar that interacts with dead surface cells in the epidermis, staining the skin darker. The effect is temporary, because as the dead cells naturally slough off, the color fades, disappearing within a week unless the lotion has been reapplied. That's a lot more healthful than a suntan, however, because while suntans also start fading after a few days, the harm done to the skin is permanent.

Getting a suntan breaks down the DNA in skin cells, but using self-tanners causes no such damage. At worst, sunless tanning products present a minimal risk of irritant or allergic reactions.

1. Self-tanning takes time. Allow AT LEAST a half hour, although an hour would be best. But don’t be discouraged; it would still take longer to get the same amount of color from the sun and with self-tanners there is absolutely no risk of wrinkles, skin cancer, or sunburn!

2. Take a quick shower or bath (don’t soak) and exfoliate your skin, either with a washcloth or body scrub. Don’t overscrub, but do pay extra attention to your knees, ankles, feet, elbows, and neck. This will help achieve a uniform appearance since self-tanners grab on to dry surface skin cells, and you may have more dead, thickened skin cells in certain areas. After showering and completely drying off, apply a thin layer of lightweight moisturizer over the areas where you will be applying self-tanner. This will help the self-tanner glide on without clinging to dry patches. A little extra moisturizer over ankles, knees, and elbows can prevent those areas from looking patchy. I have seen some recommendations to mix self-tanner with your moisturizer, but I advise against this because it will encourage streaking (unless you can precisely mix them which isn’t easy) plus it will take longer for the self-tanner to absorb and dry.

Perspiration also will make self-tanners streak, so take a cool shower or bath to keep from sweating. Your skin must be completely dry to get the best results. Do not apply self-tanner in a steamy, hot bathroom or on a humid, hot day (unless your home is air-conditioned).

3. Ideally, you should apply the self-tanner while naked, but you can also wear an old bathing suit (one you don’t plan to wear outside) to help determine where you want your tan line to end. Either way, have a game plan of where you want to stop and start the color. (Do you want tan armpits? What about places like your heels, hands, and ears?) Remember that self-tanners will stain clothing until they completely absorb into the skin and take effect on the skin cell.

Applying self-tanner on your back requires a friend with a helping hand, although you can use a long-handled paintbrush (note that this poses some issues of potential dripping and uneven application if you are not able to blend the product in).

Helping you perform better with hypnotherapy for motivation

“Only as high as I reach can I grow, only as far as I seek can I go, only as deep as I look can I see, only as much as I dream can I be.”

-Karen Ravn

We all dream of performing better, we all dream of reaching the stars; yet when we get up everyday, do we feel like we could reach the moon and the stars? About 70% of us would answer in the negative here. We all know the importance of motivation, we all think that the only way we can reach them, is by having the motivation to take that flight to the moon and back. Yet we don’t have the will to fight, we don’t feel motivated enough to achieve our goals. A lot of things clutter our way, our self image, cynicism, fear, boredom, distrust, or plain procrastination. How do we go about curing this mental lethargy? How do we achieve what we set out to achieve? The answer is pretty simple, turn to hypnotherapy for motivation. And the best part is that it is now available in High Wycombe. A session with leading hypnotherapist, Terry Doherty can help you address all motivational issues, at his hypnotherapy clinic at High Wycombe and Buckinghamshire.

Hypnotherapy works on the principle of auto suggestion and positive reinforcement. All the while that you use hypnotherapy techniques, you will be gently coaxing your subconscious mind to alter its self – image, as well as the way it perceives others and self. We might not be aware of it, but our subconscious often dictates the way we behave, speak, act, or think. If our subconscious fails to instill hope in us, or to energize us to do better, we can never succeed in succeeding. If only we could somehow get our subconscious back on track. Our subconscious mind is a tricky place, but one that has immense potential. Through redirecting your subconscious, and making it think positively, you can change your outward behavior, as well as the way you think and act. Hypnotherapy helps you change your perception towards yourself and other things; it also does away with unwanted negative beliefs, leaving your mind uncluttered to focus on the goals.

Yes, before you choose hypnotherapy for motivation, you should decide the goals you want to achieve. If your goal is blurred, how can you even focus on it? Hypnotherapy at my High Wycombe and Hertfordshire practices can help you with motivation in performing better at work, in sports, in studies and exams and even in relationships. It’s a truth that we all need motivation to achieve victories, big and small - be it on the personal front or professional. We all have individual motivations to boost our performance – the desire to live a better life, the desire to be wealthier; the desire to be a top performer…the list is endless. However, once in a while when we find ourselves slipping on the motivation front, it is necessary to bring it back on track. We all need the zeal to do better and hypnotherapy for motivation could be just the remedy.

Gold topping 500 really is a big deal

As gold topped $500, the news became front-page across the country, and radio and TV financial programs led off talking about the price of gold. Invariably, all noted that gold had reached nearly a two-decade high. Yet it is doubtful any of the reporters assigned to the story really grasped the importance of gold topping $500.

Further, few reports dared suggest that the price of gold could climb still higher. Gold stands a good chance of seeing higher prices before the inevitable price correction, which always follows such a strong move.

Most reports saw $500 gold as a novelty, not the ominous sign that something is drastically wrong with the state of financial affairs in the United States. The truth: gold is responding to profligate spending in both the government and the public sectors. Further, gold is rising because of the massive inflation by the Federal Reserve under Alan Greenspan. Let's take a brief glance at only one reason for gold's jump above $500: federal spending.

The federal government now has more than $8 trillion in official (on the books) debt. Only three years ago, gross public debt stood at $6 trillion. For those calculating, that is a one-third debt increase in only three years. The United States took 226 years to run up a debt of $6 trillion. In three years, an additional $2 trillion was tacked on.

According to The Privateer, present projected spending will push the official debt to $11 trillion before the end of Bush's second term. If this becomes reality, in only eight years the official federal debt will have nearly doubled. Additionally, there are the "off-books" liabilities.

Unfunded U. S. government liabilities—Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, military pensions, federal workers' pensions, and other promise such as picking up the tabs for bankrupt corporate pensions—will reach $50 trillion by the end of the year and climb to $70 trillion by the end of Bush's second term.

The official debt is the accumulation of years of federal deficit spending. This fiscal year's deficit (October 1, 2005 thru September 30, 2006) is projected to be $521 billion. Deficit spending looks to get worse.

Pulling statistics from the respected Congressional Budget Office's January report on the federal budget and economy, Citizens for Tax Justice show annual deficits under Bush policies skyrocketing to $1.164 trillion by 2015. These projections are seven times the Bush administration's numbers because the White House assumes, among other things, that current tax cuts "sunset," that Iraq and Afghanistan expenditures will suddenly end, and that federal appropriations will "plummet" as a share of the economy.

The Congressional Budget Office forecasts that by 2013 "the government is likely to be spending more to pay interest on the debt than on all domestic appropriations put together." Any wonder the price of gold topped $500?

It appears unlikely that the problem of deficit spending will be addressed any time soon in Washington. Sadly, our lawmakers do not yet even see it as a problem. While it is true that Democrats never miss an opportunity to carp about Bush's refusal to "roll back" his tax break for "rich Americans," the Democrats would be as quiet as church mice if the deficit spending were for welfare programs. Either way, the results would be the same: continued deficit spending.

The way gold topped $500 was a big deal because the price of gold is the thermometer for the health of a nation's currency. A rising price for gold suggests a fever is building. However, the reporting suggests that few reporters understand the United States is infected with a deadly virus, not a common cold.

Erectile dysfunction in men

Men are more sexual than women in terms of attitude and how they respond to certain sexual ideas. During sexual intercourse, men experience an erection due to the physical and mental stimulation with their partner, which is considered normal and healthy. It is considered easy for them to have an erection if the events taking place is sexually stimulating for them.

Unfortunately for some, they can experience a slight difficulty in having an erection when there is a need to have one. Sexual impotence, also known as erectile dysfunction or ED, is a health condition where in a man is unsuccessful in achieving or maintaining an erection long enough to satisfy his sexual urge. Men with such a condition would experience the consistent inability to have an erection during sexual intercourse, have their erection fail at a crucial point during sex, problems ejaculating, or an occurrence of having very brief erections.

Sexual impotence is one of the most familiar sexual problems and affects almost half of all men over 40 years of age. This can evolve into a more severe condition as men get older. Having less education will increase the impotence of men, since they are likely to have a less healthier diet (drinking more and having no exercise), and having less healthy lifestyle. Also, because of shame and fear of a social stigma, men are less likely to seek medical help for this condition. The condition can be temporary or permanent, but is nonetheless distressing for the sufferer. Impotence can stem from a psychological problem, mainly caused by mere stress or observance of performance anxiety, but certain cases can be attributed to various physical injuries or illnesses.

There are several causes of impotence known today. Some medications can cause erection difficulties as their side effect. Examples include high blood pressure medications, anti-depressants, cancer treatments, diuretics, and epilepsy medications. Always inform your physician if this scenario happens, so that he may give you a different medication. Men who has diabetes (Type 1 or Type 2) are also prone to impotence, since diabetes contributes to the damaging of blood vessels that cause a certain nerve damage called peripheral neuropathy. Other health conditions such as prostate cancer, diseases in the nervous system, and Peyronie's disease also contributes to reasons for impotence. Having been injured in the spinal cord, sex organ or having a pelvic fracture can also lead to this condition as well. Surgeries done near the nerve pathways of the penis (bladder, rectum, and prostate) can also cause nerve damage to the penis, resulting in erection failure. Smoking, alcohol abuse, illicit drug use, and prolonged exercise are also reasons for impotence, since these factors provide impairment to the nervous systems in various ways.

Psychological reasons of impotence involves stress and anxiety, problems with your relationship, and fear of failure (performance anxiety). By seeking help to control the stress, or by counseling, you can decrease the chances of having impotence. Always inform your physician regarding any symptoms or irregular sexual response, so that proper treatments can be performed.

Crickets the other live bait

Several years ago I got turned on to using live bait. Before that time I had used worms. Yes worms are live bait too, but the world of live bait is much more than a crawler on a hook. Minnows, crawdads, and crickets are also a big part of live bait fishing. I have enjoyed using each type, but crickets were my first venture into the “other-world” of live bait fishing.

A good friend of mine, Tom, first showed me how to use crickets when stream fishing for trout. We were Trout fishing the Silver Fork out side of Kyburz, California. The water was running and the scenery outstanding. Our plan was to hop boulders from up above and fish our way down stream. First on the agenda was my introduction to using crickets as bait.

Tom grabbed a black cricket out of the cricket cage and said, “You just run the hook under the collar”. What? Was this cricket wearing a coat or something? I found that just behind the head of the cricket is something that looks like a collar. The trick is to gently guide your hook under the collar and out the other side of the collar without killing the cricket. It is actually much easier than it may sound.

Next I went for a fishing bobber and was quickly corrected by Tom. No Bobber and if I needed, only the lightest of a sinker. The idea was to cast onto the rushing water and let the cricket float down stream. I studied by cricket teacher as he gently flipped his line onto the water and the cricket floated down the creek. Then he was gone. Fish on!

Since then I have learned that many people use crickets for a variety of other fish including Panfish and Breen. This technique is different from the one I used my first day. Many people use a bobber or a float with a #6, #8, or #10 hook. They then put a lightweight split shot about 6 inches from the cricket. The idea is to let the cricket slowly and naturally descend through the water. As with Panfish, you will try several times and may adjust your bobber depth until you find the right spot.

I have learned that fish like variety in their diet, just like we do. Live bait is definitely preferred by fish over artificial and they can strike at it aggressively. So feel free to explore a live bait option to worms. Crickets: The other live bait.

Spirituality information - john harricharan s interview with terri marie q5

Terri Marie: And much more, which I’m delighted about John. Do you believe then, that we are predestined to meet certain people in our life journey?

John Harricharan: I do not take kindly to the word "predestined." And let me explain why, not because it’s a bad word but I would like to put it in context “Is the oak seed predestined to become an oak tree. “ The answer is yes and no.

If it’s planted, if its nurtured, if its -- if it has it’s share of sun and rain and soil, it would evolve into what it is always been, a giant oak tree. However, if it’s taken, put on the piece of rock and smashed with another rock, it -- although it had that potential to be an oak tree that potential would have not come true. It would have been destroyed by the rock.

So, although, I do not think we are predestined for anything, we are like heat-seeking missiles. We do follow after something of the soul and our soul, which sees much more than we can see, if you want to call it over soul like Jane Roberts did, or our inner self or higher self or whatever it doesn’t matter. It has the larger picture of life than we do. And if we are tuned into that we would find it that there are certain people who would make our lives very interesting, and some of them who would make it absolutely hell.

And we may choose to meet, like I did, the Elisabeth Kubler-Ross' of the world and also, we might choose some who would make my life sheer hell, and you might say, "Well, why would you be so silly as to choose that?" Well, nobody could answer for anybody else, but I think it’s because we find it interesting. It is because we find we need it for our own growth or soul growth.

And so, if we were to follow that discussion, we would come to the thought or the conclusion that maybe everything that happens to us wasn’t predestined. Nothing was predestined. We chose at a certain level. And we did that precisely because we needed those experiences to get us to where we want to go. That’s my short answer.

Terri Marie: And thank you for that answer, as well John. So do you think that, perhaps, there are some people that we have made arrangements with perhaps, before we came here to do something?

John Harricharan: Absolutely, I think life is so wonderful, so beautiful, so horrible, so great, so frustrating. So every emotion you could think of that we just could not have sprung up on this earth half a century ago for some of us or there is a lot less than half a century. And we just didn’t spring up fully made, totally this is not the end all and be all of it.

There are quantum physics, particle physic center, high energy physics or mathematicians and others are starting to say, for example I read a wonderful thing that talked about an equation that leads to infinity, which is 10 to the 5000 power, which I mean is a number beyond your conception. I think of other times being alternate times. Its simple, we do it right now in our dreams.

We go to sleep at night. Hopefully, and we have dreams whether we admit it or not, whether we remember them or not. And all of a sudden we find ourselves in our boyhood town or village or we find ourselves in a country far-far away. And we are double the age we are in the physical life that we are living. We've been doing all kinds of time travel there.

We've been experimenting with times space, no respectable scientist since the early twentieth century, will speak of time separate from space. So yes, it is my belief that we have lived before maybe not in the before and after situation. But that we are currently, right now as we talk as I speak with you I am sitting on the third star of Orion, and the Orion's system. Orion sitting in the hill in Greece watching the sheep or I am running through the jungles of Africa and it is very possible that this is very similar to having a book with an infinite number of pages.

Let's say, page 1 to page 1 million plus 1 multiply by 10 and what not and we are now you and I are now speaking we are on page 2007, whatever the line and paragraph and line are. But that all the previous pages exist and all the other pages, which we haven’t read yet, exist. And we certainly can jump from one page to the other and go back in time or go back in pages or go forward into the future. If we do that and we skip up much of pages, the story may not make in a lot of sense. But we are free to do that.

So somewhere along the pages and the lines of time and I use those words very loosely lines of time. We have made arrangements with each other to meet with each other for our own growth and for helping each other along the way and so we may have made agreements.

Let’s say bunch of us were passing by and one of those agreements and we took a look at planet earth one said to the other, “Tell you what, John, why don’t we stop by there and see what they are upto on earth these days?”. Maybe we will be able to lend them a hand and boom you're born into Earth Life and immediately you forget or after a little while you forget where you were? How you got there? And you start living Earth Life and like most of us we start letting our lives live us instead of remembering where we came from. Remembering how safe we have been.

And so we do make arrangements with each other to get together in a little group, to help one another. I have no doubts in my mind that Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, I, Swamiji who was Professor Rishian in my book, and Brad Steiger, many of us have agreed, Terri Marie , Vish have agreed to get together, make connection again and do something that is so wonderful to help our other brothers and sisters as they too struggle up the mountain.

The muir lock monster released

In our age of rapid industrial development and expansion there is an urgent need for environmental protection to reduce, control and prevent pollution, especially oil related pollution and spills. If we don't take proper measurements against contaminating our environment pollution damage to human health will soon be intolerable and threats to ecosystems will continue to grow.

All of us share both the responsibility for creating the problem of oil and other chemical spills and the responsibility for finding ways to solve the problem.

One solution is the patented Muir Lock Monster Technology by Petro Barrier Systems. It is a proven, proprietary containment system that provides worry-free, economical protection for drains, sumps and storm water drains.

One of the exceptional features of its products is that they serve a dual function. They are capable of both filtering out small amounts of oil and completely stopping the flow of oil into the water system in case of a major spill. PBS' innovative technology incorporates a unique filter material that permits the flow of water, but traps any oil contaminants that may be present. Therefore if the water entering the product is only slightly contaminated, the Muir Lock Monster lies dormant, and the filtering section removes the oil, while allowing the water to continue to flow freely. However, in the case of a large oil spill, the Muir Lock Monster is awakened! The oil immediately begins to chemically react with the active absorbent material, which rapidly congeals upon contact with the oil, effectively "locking" the device. A solid barrier is created, which prevents any oil from entering the water system. This system of containment allows for easy clean up or recovery of the spilled oil.

The Storm Drain Barrier is the recommended product for the protection of drains in case of major oil spills. If a spill produces more than the normal sheen, or if there are trace amounts of oil present in the water exiting into the storm drain, it will create a barrier which will stop the hydrocarbons from flowing any further.

For the standard storm drain, the barrier comprises of four types of barriers:

- Three of these barriers are designed for filtering and plugging the water.

- The remaining is a by-pass that instantly plugs the barrier when activated by the three filtering barriers becoming blocked. If the plugging is caused by oil, the by-pass barrier will stop any further flow of liquids. However, if grit and silt or other non-hydrocarbon material causes the block, the by-pass barrier will allow water to continue to flow freely.

Examples of non-point sources of storm drain pollution include the following:

- Sediments from construction, forestry operations and agricultural lands;

- Bacteria and microorganisms from failing septic systems and pet wastes;

- Nutrients and pesticides from agricultural areas, golf courses, athletic fields and residential yards;

- Oil, grease, antifreeze and metals washed from roads, parking lots and driveways;

- Toxic chemicals and cleaners that were not disposed properly;

- Litter thrown onto streets, sidewalks and beaches, or directly into the water by individuals.

There is a range of standard products by Petro Barrier Systems designed to fit into standard floor drains and storm water boxes. And in case of customers with specialized needs when it comes to their containment requirements PBS is also able to custom manufacture and tailor its products to meet their particular needs.

To conclude, oil may provide the ingredients for thousands of products we use every day, but it carries with it some potential problems. That's why prevention becomes more and more important.

We have to take appropriate steps to protect our nature from oil's harmful effects.

Make sure you over-deliver

So, you want a profitable on-line business. With just under 30,000,000 web sites on internet marketing newsletters alone, where on earth do you start? I wanted a mentor that does exactly what I plan to do with my business. What would that be? I wanted a mentor that does virtually what I have done off-line for years. I want a mentor who over-delivers.

As a savvy marketer, you already know that repeat customers are the mainstay of your business. A quality internet marketer also recognizes happy customers as his/her best source of viral marketing (described in this fantastic ebook I found). So what does this have to do with over-delivering. To quote Leon Leonwood Bean, founder of L. L. Bean in Freeport, Maine “Make sure the story isn’t better than the store.” Keep ‘em Happy!

What exactly is over-delivering? First, you under-promise. Ensure that you tell your customer the truth and are conservative in your estimate of what they will be receiving and what its benefits are. Make your commitments with clarity, simplicity, and restraint. Don't burden the relationship with promises; instead grace it with extras that you can give effortlessly when the time is right. Next, work hard to deliver something better than what you have promised. Finally, deliver more than you have promised of a quality far superior to what your customer is expecting.

As taught in this wonderful e-book I just received, you have structured your customer base so that they can be contacted often. Now, let’s over-deliver. Because your customer has just received a top quality product and maybe one or two bonuses from you as downloads, why not send another unexpected bonus later... in an email. Just send a download link to a really valuable, related bonus in an email a few days later. You can do this several times over a period of weeks or months. In each email, thank your customer of his purchase and point out that this is an additional bonus as a token of gratitude for his business. This is a very simple method of building customer satisfaction and goodwill. By spreading the unexpected bonuses out, you give the customer time to "dig into" the bonuses. If you send all of the bonuses at once, the customer may just download them on his hard drive and never look at them, at all. Not a good way to get your information out there.

Another method that can be used with bonuses sent after the sale is to point out in each email that another bonus will arrive in a few days/weeks. Your new customer begins expecting your emails, and is much less likely to ask for a refund. They know that if the order is canceled there will be no other bonuses.

The good neighbor next door program

Sometimes it seems like you can't get a break if you serve your country, even if you aren't in the military. Teachers, law enforcement officers, firefighters and other emergency personnel often get the bad end of the stick when it comes to their jobs. So it should come as a pleasant surprise that these jobs can work for you if you want to buy a home. The U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is making life just a little bit easier for those people who teach kids and make sure the streets are safe with the Good Neighbor Next Door Sales Program. HUD is offering “eligible single family homes located in revitalization areas” at a 50% discount from the list price of the home.

It's not all barbecues and emerald-green lawns, though. You must be a full-time employee in the approved fields. HUD requires that you live in your new home as your only home for 36 months and that you sign a second mortgage, plus a note for this discounted amount. However, there will be no interest or unexpected payments on this mortgage, as long as you live in the place for three years as your only residence.

Revitalization areas can be a challenge to mold into a working society of law abiding people. Sometimes the communities are hampered in their growth by crime or lack of work. These are challenges that need to be faced by you and your family in order to make this program work. Getting involved with your home, your neighbors and your surrounding neighborhood is what will lead to your success.

The revitalization efforts of a community are immeasurably aided by the presence of law-abiding people with a vested interest in building a thriving community. The presence of law enforcement and emergency response personnel can have an overwhelmingly positive effect on a neighborhood, both as good examples and as contributors to their local economy. The presence of families of those in service to their community also provides a good atmosphere of community involvement and pride.

Making communities safer begins in the home. Contributing to revitalization efforts by getting involved in the community along with any fellow Good Neighbors, your community might turn around faster than you first conceive. At the very least, it's worth looking into.

Historical mechanisms promoting chestnut survival through hybridization

Historically, chestnuts have throughout the ages provided food and wood products in both European and Oriental cultures. Chestnuts have saved some civilizations from vanishing during famines, wars, and natural disasters. Native American chestnuts offered many promises and comforts to the early colonists, but during a blight that was introduced by importing nursery stock from Asia, the chestnut trees of American were almost eliminated. Certain chestnut tree colonies survived in isolated locations and because of plant breeding advances, chestnut trees are being reestablished throughout the nation. The original stands of American chestnuts were far superior to all other types in the world in respect to the sweet taste and vast quantities of lumber that was produced. Foreign types of chestnuts such as Chinese, Japanese, and European have been used to implant immunity qualities back into the historical genetic code contained within the tasty kernel of the American chestnut.

An early reference to American chestnuts, ‘Castanea dentata,’ was given in John and William Bartram’s seed and tree nursery catalog, America’s first nursery catalog that was published in Philadelphia, PA in 1783. The Bartram family, famous American explorers and botanists, were close friends of Benjamin Franklin and U. S. Presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. The Bartrams supplied American chestnut trees to gardens at Independence Hall at Philadelphia and the personal gardens of George Washington at Mount Vernon and to Thomas Jefferson at Monticello, Va. President Jefferson was an avid plant collector and spent endless hours searching for profitable horticultural crops that were commercially suitable for American farmers. President Jefferson attempted and succeeded in intercrossing and hybridizing the various collections of Spanish or European species of chestnuts, ‘Castanea sativa.’ He also performed crosses on chestnuts forming hybrid crosses of the European chestnut, ‘Castanea sativa’ and the American chestnut, ‘Castanea dentata.’

Thomas Jefferson is documented to have personally grafted European chestnuts onto American rootstock, however, it is unclear why he did this, since the American chestnuts were more desirable and tasted better than the European chestnuts.

In his book, Travels, William Bartram never mentions any encounter or observation of the American chestnut ‘Castanea dentata,’ despite his extensive exploration of the Southeastern U. S., where the trees were growing in substantially large numbers in their native habitat. The mystery created by Bartram omitting references to this very significant inhabitant of American forests is a conundrum that may never be answered. Maps locating Bartram’s famous Philadelphia, Pa. arboretum and garden still actively used today as a tourist attraction documented the presence of chestnut goliaths in the garden border.

The legendary nuts harvested from the American chestnut had a superior taste and production capability over the European chestnut. These nuts were gathered and stored in the shade and coolness of fall, so that the starchy kernel could develop its spicy sweetness. The nuts could be shelled and eaten fresh, or they could be roasted over hot coals to improve the flavor. A common sight on the streets of New York City or Philadelphia was peddlers with mobile stoves roasting the fresh chestnuts in cast iron pans to offer for sale to pedestrians. The heavy crops of nuts in the native forests offered enough food for not only human populations, but also for animals such as bears, deer, squirrels, turkeys, and the now extinct passenger pigeons.

Chestnuts, because of their 42% starch content, can be ground into a powdered flour without deterioration for extended periods and baked into sweet, nutritious cakes. In Korea chestnuts are used in the diet much like potatoes are used in Western nations.

American chestnut trees were among the largest trees found in the Eastern U. S., sometimes measuring 17 feet in diameter, large enough to drive a carriage or automobile through. These nut trees were found growing from Maine to Florida and from the Eastern seaboard to middle America. Some scattered groves of chestnut trees could be found in Western States. The grandness and gracefulness of this amazingly beautiful tree was highly desirable in estate landscapes. The long white catkin flowers of the chestnut developed into a valuable food crop for the U. S. The tall, straight trunk of the tree was ideal for many uses, because it was easily split along the grain for timber and split-rail fences. The dense wood was strong and extremely resistant to rotting, thus making it perfect for telephone poles, fence posts, and other building materials.

The great gift to the New World of the American chestnut that provided food, shelter, shade, and wood resources, had all but vanished when the trees fell victim to a fungus infection, ‘Cryphonectria parasitica,’ in the year 1904. Many years earlier, a USDA plant explorer, Frank Meyer, noticed a fungal disease, later identified as chestnut blight, had entered U. S. ports in 1876 from China and Japan on nursery stock imported from those countries. Luther Burbank, perhaps the world’s greatest plant hybridizer, reported that he imported a number of chestnuts from China and Japan in 1884. The USDA official went before Congress in 1912 after the blight decimated American chestnut trees growing at the Bronx Zoo, and was personally given credit for his efforts to stop further debilitating diseases and plagues imported into the U. S. by enacting the Plant Quarantine Act of Congress.

Following the example of President Thomas Jefferson in crossing various species of chestnuts to obtain hybrids with vigor and offspring that might have, within the genetic material of the tree, a built-in resistance to disease, the USDA began hybridizing American chestnuts, ‘Castanea dentata,’ the Chinese chestnut, ‘Castanea ‘mollissima,’ and Japanese chestnuts, ‘Castanea crenata.’ Thousands of chestnut hybrids were obtained, however, the American and Chinese offspring were the most promising, whereas, the Japanese chestnuts were excluded. The European genetic types of chestnut trees were also omitted, because they were also struck down to some degree by the chestnut blight.

Since the hybrid seed of outcrossed chestnut trees were so widely variable and with such unpredictable germination results were unavailable, the seed of a hybrid selected tree did not demonstrate much promising consequence towards establishing profitable commercial chestnut orchards. The chestnut, outstanding hybrid selections, were grafted with extreme difficulty, thus the USDA was unfortunately forced to abandon its efforts on chestnuts in 1960.

It should be mentioned that the chestnut blight does not affect the roots of the trees and consequently shoots arise from the stumps that eventually produce a few scattered nuts that can be used to further the research in obtaining immunity in a hybrid offspring of the American chestnut ‘Castanea dentata.’ The chestnut blight only affects the Chinese chestnut trees, ‘Castanea sativa,’ in a minor superficial way. It became important to recognize that this immune quality could be transmitted into an American chestnut hybrid even when the presence of the Chinese chestnut immunity factor was only one-sixteenth of the final genetic composition of the hybrids that could be obtained from the cross of C. dentata and C. mollissima.

Luther Burbank reported intercrossing chestnuts from a resulting gene pool that involved crossing Chinese, Japanese, European (Italian), and American chestnuts to include also chinquapin trees. Out of this genetic blend, he managed to develop a dwarf chestnut 1 Ѕ ft tall that produced nuts from the seed after 6 months from being planted. He also managed to produce a crop of chestnuts from everbearing trees that involved chestnuts and flowers being produced month after month continuously. The nuts were a mammoth size of two inches in diameter, each weighing an ounce or more in clusters of 6 to 9 nuts per burr. In the natural state, the spiny burrs act as armor that protects the nuts from squirrels and birds.

More recent observations of the Italian pathologist Antonio Biraghi have shown that certain survivors of the European chestnuts, C. sativa, are believed to contain a form of chestnut blight that has been genetically weakened in virulence by an internal virus to the extent that the effect, called ‘hypovirulence,’ appears to demonstrate that the virus affected chestnut trees have acquired a measure of immunity to the deadly chestnut fungal blight. These clones are believed by many plant scientists to be capable of imparting a new immunity into the new C. dentata hybrid crosses with C. sativa and backcrossing onto parental genetic types and are being evaluated.

Many chestnut trees are offered by mail-order and internet companies today, offering an optimistic and productive future for commercial chestnut tree orchards. Some of these offerings are available through the valuable insight and efforts of the U. S. Department of Agriculture and its research facilities.
